Bagh Chal: rules and exercises
Uneven sides: 4 tigers against 20 goats, with different rules and different victories. Tigers win by capturing 5 goats; goats win by leaving all four tigers unable to move.
Uneven sides: 4 tigers hunt, 20 goats block.
1. Learn the rules
The tigers
- They start on the four corners of the 5×5 board.
- They move one point along any marked line.
- They capture by jumping over ONE adjacent goat, in a straight line, landing on the empty point beyond.
- Capturing is not compulsory and does not chain: one jump per turn.
The goats
- 1 · Placing — while goats remain off the board, each turn places one on an empty point. They do NOT move during this phase.
- 2 · Moving — once all 20 are placed, each turn moves one goat to an adjacent point.
- Goats never capture: blocking is their weapon.
How the game ends
- Tigers win on capturing the fifth goat.
- Goats win when it is the tigers’ turn and no tiger can move or jump.
- After all twenty goats have been placed, goats lose if it is their turn and none has a legal move.
Diagonals exist only where the board draws them: not every intersection has them.
2. Recognize the objective
The objectives differ: tigers seek their fifth capture; goats block exits. Check the board’s actual connections and which jump will remain available after the opposing reply.
3. Put it into practice
